House of Representatives – House Impeachment

February 03, 2021 – The U.S. House of Representatives delivered the historic rebuke to Trump on Wednesday afternoon — exactly one week after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building in a rampage that led to five deaths, including that of a Capitol Police officer.

The article of impeachment charges Trump with “incitement of insurrection.”

Mr. Trump has become the only president in U.S. history to be impeached twice.

First impeachment of Donald Trump

H. Rept. 116-346 – IMPEACHMENT OF DONALD J. TRUMP PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES116th Congress (2019-2020)

First impeachment of Donald Trump

The first impeachment of Donald Trump occurred when Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, was impeached by the House of Representatives of the 116th United States Congress on December 18, 2019. The House adopted two articles of impeachment against Trump: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Trump’s impeachment came after a formal House inquiry alleged that he had solicited foreign interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election to help his re-election bid, and then obstructed the House inquiry itself by telling his administration officials to ignore subpoenas for documents and testimony.

The House inquiry reported that Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine in order to influence the Ukrainian president into announcing an investigation into Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden who was targeted by Trump due to his connection with the privately held Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma, arguing that Joe Biden had engaged in nepotism to get Hunter Biden a position on the board. In addition, that Ukraine promote a discredited conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russia, was behind interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump enlisted surrogates within and outside his official administration, including the United States Attorney General, to pressure Ukraine and other foreign governments to cooperate in investigating conspiracy theories concerning American politics.

The House Judiciary Committee announced two articles of impeachment, designated H. Res. 755: (1) abuse of power, and (2) obstruction of Congress in its investigation of the President’s conduct regarding Ukraine.

Voting results on House Resolution 755

Article I (Abuse of power)

Article II (Obstruction of Congress)
